Membership

ABSDA is a not for profit association of building supply retailers, suppliers and distributors that are focused on the needs and requirements of the industry in Atlantic Canada.

What does ABSDA do?  
In brief, ABSDA provides members access to industry training programs, insurance and financial benefit programs, statistical data and historical information, networking and trade show opportunities, proactive industry planning and leadership, an annual trade directory and quarterly magazine, and representation to all levels of government.

Is ASBDA a big player?  
Yes. With over 625 member firms, ABSDA is the second largest association in the industry in Canada. In terms of activity, the answer again is yes. ABSDA consistently strives to provide more quality services than any other industry association. ABSDA is an Active member of CRBSC (Canadian Retail Building Supply Council), an organization representing over 2,000 retail members in a $32 billion dollar industry.

Has it been around for long?  
Yes. For over 50 years, in fact! Long before talk of Atlantic union became fashionable, building supply dealers in the region had banded together for the common good. Over the years, the association and its members have contributed greatly to the advancement and evolution of the entire industry.  

Who provides the leadership?  
ABSDA’s 14-member Board of Directors, which includes a five-member executive, provides direction and leadership. At its Dieppe office, a team of four full-time employees carry out the day-to-day work.  

Are members actively involved?  
Yes. ABSDA relies on a committee structure to ensure it attains its ambitious goals. Many members provide input to the association through their work on these committees. Member firms participate in ABSDA’s comprehensive survey program. In addition, members attend the Atlantic Building Materials Show and participate in a wide variety of outstanding educational programs, along with regional and area meetings.
